The Pemberton 24
The Pemberton 24 is an endurance event at Pemberton Park in Salisbury, Maryland. The event is hosted by Algonquin Ultras Inc. and Wicomico County.
The format involves participants or teams running as many 5 km loops as they can within a 24-hour period. A new 5 km loop begins every hour. The event starts on a Friday evening and ends on a Saturday evening.
Timing and scoring The event does not use traditional chip timing. Participants earn points for each completed 5 km loop. Additional points are awarded for loops completed between midnight and 4:00 AM, and for top-five placements within each individual loop. A bonus of 10 points is given for completing all 24 loops. Ties are broken by a 0.6-mile sprint.
Event categories There are two main categories: the Individual Division and the Team Division for groups of four runners.
Facilities and rules An aid station at the start and finish area provides water, snacks, and drinks. Runners are encouraged to set up a camp area to rest between loops. The event is cupless, so runners must provide their own hydration containers. A headlamp is required for nighttime running, and a chair is recommended for resting.
Bibs must be visible to receive credit. The rules state no pacers, no crew on the course, and no dogs. Crews are only allowed at the start/finish area. There are no bib transfers, refunds, or deferrals. The top three individuals and top three teams receive awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
