The Pemberton 24
The Pemberton 24 is a 24 hours event made of repeated 5K runs on the trails of Pemberton Park in Salisbury, Maryland. The event is hosted by Algonquin Ultras Inc. and Wicomico County. A new 5K begins on the hour throughout the 24 hours. An aid station at the start and finish is stocked with cold water, snacks, gels, sodas, and additional supplies. Participants may set up a camp area to rest, sleep, and connect with other runners and volunteers between runs.
This is a cupless event. Runners must bring a headlamp for nighttime running, their own hydration (bottle, vest, belt, or handheld), and a chair for resting between events. Traditional chip timing is not used; runners earn points for each completed 5K provided they start on time and finish within the hour. Scoring gives 1 point per 5K (up to 24), plus 1 bonus point for each 5K run during midnight through 4:00 AM (up to 5); placing points are 1st +4, 2nd +3, 3rd +2, 4th and 5th +1. Completing all 24 grants a +10 bonus. Ties are decided by a 0.6 mile sprint.
There are individual and team divisions; teams consist of four runners and score by combined results. Top three individuals for men and women and top three teams receive awards. Race rules include visible bibs for credit, no bib transfers, no early or late starts, no pacers on course, crews only at start and finish, no dogs, and a leave no trace policy.
