Oldman Backyard Ultra
The Oldman Backyard Ultra is organized by Youth One - Youth and Family Centre and takes place beside the Oldman River on Blackfoot Territory, among rolling coulees. The event follows backyard ultra rules: runners complete an out-and-back loop of about 6.7 km and must finish each loop within the hour to be ready to start the next one. The event continues in this pattern until only one runner remains.
The event combines a community running gathering with fundraising. All proceeds and donations go to Youth One, which provides mentorship-based after-school programs, meals, and support services for teens aged 11 to 18. For every $1500 raised through the event, one youth receives a full year of access to these services. Youth One operates as a project of Bridges of Hope in Lethbridge.
The Oldman Backyard Ultra is noted as one of Alberta's early backyard ultras and is also framed as a beginning-of-season event suitable as a primer for other races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
