About the race
The Oldman Backyard Ultra is a last-one-standing backyard ultra scheduled for May 1, 2027. The event takes place beside the Oldman River on Blackfoot Territory near Lethbridge and uses an out-and-back loop of roughly 6.7 km. Runners start each hour and must complete the loop before the hourly cutoff to be eligible to start the next loop; the race continues until only one runner remains.
The event is organized by Youth One Youth and Family Centre as a non-profit fundraiser. All proceeds and donations support after school programs, meals, and support services for teens aged 11 to 18. The organiser states that every CAD 1500 raised covers one youth sponsorship for a full year; 525 such sponsorships are needed this year.
Event rules meet official backyard ultra standards. Registration opens October 1, 2026 with early bird pricing; the price increases after January 14. The organisers present the race as both a backyard ultra and a running festival and describe it as one of Alberta's first backyard ultras. The course is set among rolling coulees along the river and is described as a 6.7 km loop run hourly until only a single runner remains.
