The Howling Ghost Trail Race
The Howling Ghost Trail Race - Springwater Conservation Area, Aylmer
The Howling Ghost Trail Race takes place on September 26, 2026, at Springwater Conservation Area in Aylmer. This is the fourth edition of the event, held on Carolinian forest trails that are mostly wide, groomed, and very runnable.
Race options:
- 8 km - one loop of the 8 km course
- 16 km - two loops of the 8 km course
- 24 km - three loops of the 8 km course
A night 8 km event, the Structural Panels Inc. Night Howl, is offered and requires a headlamp. Day/Night challenge options allow runners to complete a daytime race and return for the Night Howl.
Timing is electronic with Chiptime Results; the timing chip is attached to the bib. An aid station near the start/finish/interloop area provides hydration and food, with access every 8 km; there is an additional hydration station on course. The event is cupless; participants must bring their own cup or bottle. Public washrooms are available at the start/finish area.
Day-race participants receive a combed cotton long sleeve tee with men's or women's cut. Night-race participants receive a Howling Ghost toque. All finishers receive a custom finisher medal, with different colours for day and night. Event photos are taken and available to download for free. Awards are given to top finishers in each gender category where at least three runners compete.
A portion of event proceeds will be donated to the Children's Health Foundation; the top fundraiser earns a free entry to the next Howling Ghost. Camping is available at Springwater.
The refund policy: there are no direct refunds. Withdrawals before August 26 receive a 100% race credit. Withdrawals after August 26 receive a 50% race credit, minus taxes, fees, and any donations. Bib transfers are not permitted. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
