The Hourglass Vegas

Boulder City, United States • 4 Apr 2026

Event Format

The Hourglass: Vegas is a multi-round endurance event with a shrinking time cap. The first round has a 30-minute time limit. For each subsequent round, the time limit is reduced by one minute. Participants must complete their required loop or task before the time expires to earn a start in the next round. Those who miss the cutoff are out of the competition but are encouraged to stay and cheer, becoming part of the event atmosphere. The last person still advancing wins.

Event Categories

Participants choose one of four competitive categories:

  • Hourglass Run: Complete a 2-mile desert trail loop each round.
  • Hourglass Ruck: Complete a 1-mile loop while carrying a weighted pack. Participants must bring their own pack and weights (35 lb for men, 20 lb for women).
  • Hourglass Hybrid Athlete: Perform a 2-mile run and 10 burpees each round, with specific movement standards.
  • Hourglass Loaded Carry: Complete an 800m sandbag carry each round. Participants must bring their own sandbag (60 lb for men, 45 lb for women). The sandbag can be carried in any manner.

Course and Conditions

The event takes place at Bootleg Canyon in Boulder City, Nevada. The desert terrain features rolling climbs, rocky sections, and wide-open exposure. Participants should expect heat and bring appropriate gear, including trail shoes, water, electrolytes, and sun protection.

Awards

The top finisher in each of the four categories is recognized. The top five finishers in each category earn an invitation to compete at the Ultimate Hourglass event in Anchorage, Alaska, in September, where cash prizes are available.
