The Holmdel Classic
The Holmdel Classic is an end-of-year trail event held at Holmdel Park in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The event is offered as looped races based on a single lap that is approximately 4.65 miles in length.
Distances
- 50K (ish): 7 laps
- Halfish: 3 laps
The course is roughly 95% trail and double track with about 584 feet of elevation gain per lap. Terrain includes grass, dirt, rock, roots, gravel, pavement, and a mix of inclines and declines. A notable feature called The Bowl appears around mile 1.5 of each lap; laps begin on an open grass field and include an initial quarter-mile uphill. Course marking will use lawn signs, pink flagging tape, and signs on cones; participants are instructed not to follow existing trail markings.
Timing is conducted with an RFID system that records each completed lap. There is a strict 8 hour cutoff for the event; lap counting and pace requirements are enforced. An aid station will be located at the start/finish area offering drinks, snacks, hydration, and first aid. No food preparation is provided and there are no aid stations along the course. Runners may carry their own supplies; spectators are allowed and pacers are not permitted on course.
All proceeds go directly to MissionCleanWater, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides sustainably managed clean water systems, performs monthly inspections and preventative maintenance, maintains 24 hour emergency response for repairs, and manages a supply chain for replacement materials. The organization aims to expand access to clean water and accepts registration deferrals to other planned races in 2026 in certain cases. The event may proceed in winter weather unless Monmouth County Parks declares conditions unsafe. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
