The Frozen Snot is a winter trail race held on the slopes of Bald Eagle Mountain in central Pennsylvania, based in Lock Haven, PA at 118 Pine Mountain Road. The event offers two course options:

  • 8.3 miles - Short Course
  • 13.5 miles - Long Course

Registration opens Nov 14, 2025. The race field is capped at about 350 runners. Typical conditions are cold and wintery, with ice, snow, or mud possible.

Course and support

The Short Course climbs approximately 3,775+ feet of elevation gain (about 454 ft/mile). The Long Course climbs roughly 5,600+ feet (about 414 ft/mile) and includes a signature climb called "The Beast" of about 1,300 ft over roughly 2,900 ft of ground. The Short Course includes steep sections such as the climb nicknamed "Barb's Kiss My Ass" of roughly 1,100 ft over about half a mile.

Terrain is rugged and technical, including boulder fields, rope-down descents, and stream crossings that may be frozen or flowing. Aid support includes two main stations: Bacon Station (bottom of "The Avenue") and Zindel Park. Mandatory gear includes traction devices (micro-spikes, crampons, screw-shoes, etc.) and no cotton clothing may be allowed. Finish times vary widely depending on conditions. Run under the stars at Icicles on the Moon, a night trail event at Zindel Park in Lock Haven on December 27, 2025. Choose a 7 mile or 5K route around the reservoir, bring a headlamp, and help fund Zindel property revitalization.

Fire on the Rocks is a rugged 10K trail at Zindel Park near McElhattan, PA, with about 1,400 feet of climbing across challenging singletrack. Limited to 400 runners, the intermediate course finishes with scenic views and sticky buns.

Climb rugged single track through streams and sweeping vistas at the Hyner View Trail Challenge, featuring a punchy 25K and a gutsy 50K with big vertical and technical terrain. Fields are limited, registration opens in May.

Tackle technical single track, stream crossings, and sweeping vistas in Tiadaghton State Forest with a 25K or Half Marathon option. Enjoy rugged, rewarding trails through the Algerine Wild Area and Black Forest Trail.
