The Frozen Snot : McElhattan, PA

The Frozen Snot is a winter mountain trail race taking place Feb 7, 2026 at 119 Pine Mountain Road, McElhattan, Pennsylvania. The event offers three course options and runs on established trails with marked routes, sweepers, med/comm support, and volunteers.

The race emphasizes technical winter terrain: steep climbs, boulder fields, rope-assisted descents, snow, ice, and rapidly changing weather. Organizers state this is not a beginner event and list recommended skills such as use of traction devices, navigating uneven footing, sustained climbs and scrambles, and good judgment in cold conditions.

  • Long Course 13.5 +/- miles, ~5,600 feet total elevation gain
  • Short Course 8.3 +/- miles, ~3,775 feet total elevation gain

Course details include the toughest climbs: a 1,300 foot climb known as The Beast, and a 1,100 foot climb on Barb's KMA Trail. Aid is provided at Zindel Park with a full aid station, The Bacon Station with limited aid, and a water drop on the 25K loop. There are course cut offs subject to change based on weather and trail conditions.

Age and entry rules require participants to be 16 or older unless an exception is approved; under-16 runners must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The 25K requires proof of completing the 13.5 mile course under 5.5 hours within the past five years. The event is limited to 350 runners and uses a waitlist when full. Refund and cancellation terms are specified by date and percentage in the event materials. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
