The Eternal Damnation Backyard

The Eternal Damnation Backyard is a Last Man Standing backyard ultra held at Wilson State Park in the Hell Creek area near Dorrance, Kansas. The start and finish are located in the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail parking lot.

The course begins with three quarters of a mile on pavement before moving to single-track mountain bike trail for the remainder of each lap. Each lap is required to measure 4 miles 880 feet (metric equivalent 6.7056 kilometers) and starts and ends at the Switchgrass parking lot. The trail runs beside Wilson Lake.

The event follows standard backyard ultra rules: each loop must be completed within one hour and all competitors must start each loop at the bell. Loops may be run as a loop or out-and-back; no artificial aids including trekking poles are allowed during loops; common aid stations are permitted but personal aid is not allowed while on course. Timing of loops is optional. The race is open-ended and the last person to complete a loop is declared the winner; all others are recorded by total distance covered.

Race operations include 24/7 live media coverage with runner interviews and live feeds. Participants may bring up to two crew members and will need to be essentially self-sustained; water and event-provided endurance fuel are available but runners should supply their own food and equipment.
