The Eternal Damnation Backyard
The Eternal Damnation Backyard is a Last Man Standing backyard ultra held at Wilson State Park (Hell Creek area) near Dorrance and Sylvan Grove, KS. The start and finish are at the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail parking lot. Each lap begins with three quarters of a mile on pavement before switching to single track mountain bike trail that runs beside Wilson Lake. The required lap length is 4 miles 880 feet (metric equivalent 6.7056 kilometers). Each lap starts precisely one hour after the last and must be completed within the hour to count.
The event follows standard backyard ultra rules: a fixed starting corral, mandatory starts at the bell, no late starts, no personal aid during a loop though common aid stations are allowed, no artificial aids including trekking poles, and slower runners must allow passes. Timing of individual loops is optional. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; if no one completes one more lap than others, there is no winner. The race is open ended and minimum age is 16 unless accompanied by an adult.
Ultraverse Supplements organizes the event. The organizer will provide water and Proxima C endurance fuel; participants should plan to be largely self sustained and bring their own food. Each runner may have two crew members; no electricity will be available. Media coverage includes 24/7 live feeds, runner interviews, and frequent social media updates.
All participants receive a long sleeve tri-blend shirt and a buckle marked with their exact mileage. Runners who complete 24 hours receive a custom embroidered item mailed after the event.
