Event overview

The Eternal Damnation Backyard is a Last Man Standing backyard ultra at Wilson State Park (Hell Creek area) outside Dorrance, KS, with the start/finish located in the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail parking lot. The event is presented by Ultraverse Supplements and is the first of three required races for the Ultraverse Kansas Slam. Registration closes April 12, 2026. Participants must be at least 16 years old.

Course and rules

Each loop is 4 miles 880 feet (6.7056 km). The course begins with 0.75 miles on pavement before switching to single-track mountain bike trail; subsequent sections are 100% single track alongside Wilson Lake. Loops start precisely one hour apart and each loop must be completed within the hour to count. Rules specify no late starts, no personal aid during a loop (common aid stations allowed), no non-competitors on course, no artificial aids including trekking poles, and slower runners must allow passes. Timing of loops is optional. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; the race is open-ended.

Logistics and awards

Each runner may have two crew members and space will be available for pop-up setups. Organizers will provide water and a branded endurance fuel; runners are otherwise self-sustained and must bring their own food. No electricity will be available. All runners receive a shirt and a custom finishers plaque; special awards include last person standing, assist, last male and female standing, and a custom embroidered item for runners who complete 24 hours (100 miles). Deferral and credit policies apply; there are no refunds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
