Hell Creek Half & 50K

The Hell Creek Half & 50K takes place on the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail at Wilson State Park in Kansas. The course consists of single-track trails that run alongside Wilson Lake. The terrain is characterized as hilly and is entirely exposed with no heavily wooded areas.

The event offers two main distances:

  • Half Marathon: A single loop of approximately 13 miles, including an initial short section on pavement.
  • 50K: A course totaling closer to 32 miles, consisting of an initial 19-mile loop followed by the 13-mile half marathon loop.

Participants have a total cutoff time of 5:00 PM for both distances. The course is heavily marked with ribbons and signs to assist with navigation. Two full aid stations are located at the start/finish area and a location known as Hell Hill. These stations provide water, soda, and endurance fuel. Additional unmanned water stations are positioned at specific intervals along the loops.

All participants receive a tank top as part of their registration. Runners who complete the half marathon receive a finisher medal, while those who complete the 50K receive a belt buckle. Top finishers in the male and female categories for both distances are recognized with awards. On-site facilities include restrooms at the start and finish, with hot showers available at a nearby campground. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
