Hell Creek Half & 50k
The Hell Creek Half & 50k is a trail running event at the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail in Wilson State Park near Sylvan Grove, KS. The start and finish are at the Switchgrass trail head near the Switchgrass restroom parking lot, GPS N38°54.965 W98°30.549. The event is presented by Ultraverse Supplements.
Distances:
- 50k 19-mile loop plus another loop on the half marathon course, closer to 32 miles.
- Half marathon one 13(ish) mile loop with an initial 1/3 mile on pavement.
All runs follow single-track mountain bike trail that is rugged but described as fully runnable, with very few trees and frequent views of Wilson State Park and Wilson Lake. Elevation change is about 3000 ft for the 50k and about 1300 ft for the half marathon. The course is heavily marked with ribbons, flags, and wrong-way signs; volunteers will be stationed at Hell Hill.
Aid stations are at the start/finish and Hell Hill, with an unmanned water and Proxima C station near mile 5 and another near mile 13 on the Hell Creek Loop (50k only). Rules include a 5:00 PM cutoff for both races, no pacers, crew limited to start/finish, a minimum age of 16, and a requirement to carry a means to hold water. No refunds or bib transfers are allowed. Deferral credits are available on a tiered schedule and attach to the entrant’s Ultrasignup account.
Swag includes a Hell Creek dri-fit tank top for all finishers, a wooden medal for half marathon finishers, and a buckle for 50k finishers. Dogs may run and receive a pup-specific medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
