Hell Creek Half & 50K

The event is held on the Switchgrass Mountain Bike Trail at Wilson State Park near Sylvan Grove, KS. The course follows exposed, single track that runs largely beside Wilson Lake and has few wooded sections; terrain is hilly but described as fully runnable.

• Half marathon - one roughly 13 mile loop with an initial 1/3 mile on pavement.
• 50k - a 19 mile loop followed by the half marathon loop, about 32 miles total.

The course will be heavily marked with ribbons, flags, and wrong-way signs. There are two staffed aid stations at the start/finish and at Hell Hill; an unmanned water and Proxima C station is placed at mile 5 and another around mile 13 on the Hell Creek Loop for 50k runners. Proxima C Endurance Fuel is the electrolyte and carbohydrate beverage provided at aid stations.

Elevation gain and loss is approximately 3000 feet for the 50k and about 1300 feet for the half marathon. Restrooms are available at the start/finish, a porta potty will be near the secondary aid station, and hot showers are available year round at Big Bluestem campground about 3/4 mile from the start/finish.

Race rules include a 5:00 PM course cutoff, no pacers allowed, crew support limited to the start/finish area, and drop bags permitted at Hell Hill and start/finish.
