The Cerne Giant

This challenge event offers two long-distance routes through Dorset countryside, with a completion time of 11 hours. The event starts and finishes at Cerne Abbas Village Hall and uses paths across downland and river valleys.

Distances available:

  • 30 miles

The route passes through local places including Alton Pancras, Lyscombe Chapel, Bingham's Melcombe (30 mile only), the Dorsetshire Gap, Buckland Newton and Sydling St Nicholas (30 mile only). Route descriptions and GPX files are provided by the organiser before the event. Checkpoints are provided - two on the 20 mile route and three on the 30 mile route - and will offer drinks and light snacks. A light vegetarian meal is provided at the finish; participants with other dietary needs should carry their own food and drink. Entrants should bring their own mug as disposable cups are not used at checkpoints.

Entries open on 1 November 2026 and close on 7 March 2027. Entry is limited to 180 participants, entries are not transferable and there are no entries on the day. Minimum age is 16 or older. Parking is limited and located about 600 m from the village hall; marshals will provide guidance. No dogs are permitted. All finishers receive a certificate. Trail runs nearby

A technical off-road 10 km through woodlands, meadows and river crossings on the Forde Abbey Estate, plus a free Junior 1500 m for primary-age children. Medals for all and prizes for winners; some participant restrictions apply.

A family friendly off-road event near Damerham with 5 km and 10 km runs plus a children's colour run; medals, category trophies, refreshments and on-site parking are provided.

An evening trail event on 4 July 2026 based at the Fox Inn in Ansty, Dorchester with a 10k course and 220 m of elevation, venue music and food, accommodation options, finisher medals and trophies to third place male and female.

Trail races of 5, 10 and 15 miles take place in Moors Valley Country Park in Dorset on 5 July 2026. The event includes chip timing, feed stations, medical support and a bespoke finisher medal.
