The Brutal Extreme Triathlons take place in Llanberis, North Wales from 19 to 22 September 2026. The races start with a swim in Llyn Padarn, continue with laps on a 28 mile bike circuit on open roads, and include lake laps plus a mountain section on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) via the Llanberis Path. Entries are for athletes aged 18 and over. Events can be entered solo or as a relay team of 2 to 4 members. Trophies are awarded to the first three men and first three women in each race.

Distances and format

  • Half (Canol): 1.2 mile swim; 56 mile bike; 5 mile lake lap; ~9 mile mountain
  • Full (Mawr): 2.4 mile swim; 112 mile bike; 15 mile lake laps; ~9 mile mountain
  • Double / Triple: multiple laps of the half/full distances; support crew required for Double/Triple

Course, support and rules

The swim uses laps in Llyn Padarn with athletes exiting the lake every two laps; lakeside aid is available. The bike lap includes a steep hill and the climb over Pen y Pass, followed by a descent back to HQ. The lake lap is a 5 mile trail route with hills, rocks and a waterfall. The mountain section is roughly 9 miles up and down the Llanberis Path. Support crews are required for the Double and Triple events; crews must not follow directly behind on the bike and must remain near the athlete on the mountain. Mandatory rules include wearing a hi-viz vest on the bike, wearing a cycle helmet, no drafting, no MP3 players, and mounting/dismounting at designated points.
