Battle of the Brampton Valley Way
This event is a roughly 28 miles or 45km point to point run along the traffic free Brampton Valley Way, comprising two out and back stretches of 14 miles or 22.5km each way. The route has an elevation gain of about 280m and a hard packed surface suited to road or trail shoes. Runners pass through two dark tunnels, one of 294m and one of 422m, and should carry a head torch or small handheld torch. Tunnel surfaces include ruts and puddles.
The event is organised as a Leicestershire versus Northamptonshire contest with 100 places allocated to each start end. There are timing mats at both ends to provide halfway split times and a mathematical model will be used to compare performances across the two sides. Feed stations are positioned every 4.5 miles, with a total of four points including the turnaround and both ends. Toilets are available at both ends and at the turnaround.
First aid cover is provided at the start and finish with access to the course, and volunteers will manage road crossings including the busier A508. The race is cupless so runners must bring their own cup or hydration vest. The minimum entry age is 18 on race day, entry fee is £35, and the race cut off is 7 hours.
