Battle of the Brampton Valley Way

Market Harborough, United Kingdom • 12 Apr 2026

Event overview

The Battle of the Brampton Valley Way is an out-and-back ultramarathon organised by Race Harborough on 12 April 2026. Runners choose which end to start from and will represent either Market Harborough/Leicestershire or Northampton/shire; there are 100 places available from each end. Entry fee is £32 and the minimum age is 18 on race day. Entries and transfers close seven days before the event. The race cut-off time is 7 hours.

Course and logistics

The route follows the traffic-free Brampton Valley Way with a total elevation gain of about 280 m. Distances offered:

  • 14 miles (22.5 km) one way
  • 28 miles (45 km) out-and-back (ultra distance)

The surface is hard packed track, suitable for road or trail shoes, with occasional puddles and a small ford. Runners pass through two very dark tunnels measuring 294 m and 422 m; a head torch or small handheld torch is required. The race is cupless, so runners must bring a cup or hydration vest. Canicross is not permitted because the track is narrow and runners will pass in both directions.

On-course support includes professional first aid at the start and finish, volunteers at road crossings (the A508 crossing is busier), and feed stations approximately every 4.5 miles (four in total). Toilets are available at both ends and at the 14-mile turnaround. Chip timing with timing mats at both ends will provide a halfway split. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers and all finishers receive a medal. Free digital race photos are provided after the event. Charities supported in 2026 are local foodbanks in Market Harborough and Northampton. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
