Battle of the Brampton Valley Way

Market Harborough, United Kingdom • 12 Apr 2026

Event overview

The Battle of the Brampton Valley Way is an out-and-back ultramarathon along the traffic-free Brampton Valley Way in Northamptonshire. Distances offered:

  • 14 miles / 22.5 km one way
  • 28 miles / 45 km round trip (classified as an ultra)

The event limits entries to 100 runners starting from each end. Runners are recorded by timing mats at both ends, giving a halfway split, and a mathematical model is used to compare performances between the Market Harborough/Leicestershire and Northamptonshire sides. The race cut-off time is 7 hours. Minimum age on race day is 18.

Course, support and facilities

The route is largely flat with about 280 m of elevation gain and follows a hard-packed track. Surfaces are suitable for road or trail shoes; occasional puddles and a small ford are noted. Two dark tunnels are on the course, measuring 294 m and 422 m; torches or head torches are required and tunnel surfaces have ruts and puddles.

There are feed stations approximately every 4.5 miles (four in total). Professional first aid is available at the start and finish with course access, and volunteers will manage road crossings, including the busier A508 crossing. Toilets are provided at both ends and at the 14-mile turnaround.

Entries, kit and extras

Entry is priced at £32. The race is not suitable for canicross. Races are cupless, so runners must bring their own cup or hydration vest. Short-sleeved technical t-shirts are available to pre-order for £16; none will be sold on race day. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers and all finishers receive an event medal. Free digital race photos are provided after the event. Charity partners for 2026 are local foodbanks in Market Harborough and Northampton. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
