Battle of the Brampton Valley Way (Race Harborough)

This is an out-and-back ultra run along the traffic-free Brampton Valley Way between Market Harborough and Northampton. The route covers two 14 mile stretches (one out, one back) for a total distance of 28 miles (about 45 km) and has a total elevation gain of approximately 280 m.

  • One-way: 14 miles (22.5 km)
  • Out-and-back: 28 miles (45 km)

Runners choose which end to start from; there are 100 places available from each end. Timing mats at both ends provide a halfway split, and a mathematical model will compare performances between the Leicestershire and Northamptonshire fields. The race has a 7 hour cut-off and a minimum entry age of 18 on race day. Entries and transfers close seven days before the event. Entry fee is £32.

The surface is hard packed track, suitable for road or trail shoes, with occasional puddles and a small ford. Two very dark tunnels (294 m and 422 m) require a head torch; tunnel surfaces have ruts and puddles. The event is cupless so runners must carry their own cup or hydration system. The course has professional first aid at start and finish, volunteers at road crossings, four feed stations spaced about every 4.5 miles, and toilets at both ends and the turnaround. Top three male and female finishers receive prizes and all finishers receive a commemorative medal. Free digital race photos will be provided after the event. The event supports two local foodbanks and entrants may make donations. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
