Battle of the Brampton Valley Way

The event on Sunday 11 April 2027 is an out and back run along the traffic free Brampton Valley Way, staged as a Leicestershire versus Northamptonshire competition. Runners choose their start end to represent either Market Harborough/Leicestershire or Northampton/shire, with 100 places available from each end.

Distances offered:

  • 14 miles (22.5 km) one way
  • 28 miles (45 km) total, just over a marathon

The route is largely flat with a total elevation gain of about 280 m and follows a hard packed track. The surface is suitable for road or trail shoes. There are two dark tunnels on course, measuring 294 m and 422 m, where a head torch or small handheld torch is required; the tunnel floors have ruts and puddles in places.

On course support includes professional first aid at the start and finish with the ability to access runners on the route, Race Harborough volunteers at road crossings, and four feed stations located roughly every 4.5 miles (two mid course and one at each end). Toilets are available at both start ends and at the turnaround point.

The event is cupless so runners must provide their own cup or hydration system. The race is not suitable for canicross and runners are requested to keep left at all times. Minimum entry age is 18 years and the race cut off time is seven hours. All finishers receive an event medal and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers.
