The BACKYARD Genesis

The BACKYARD Genesis is a BACKYARD Ultra listed for Lake Wales, FL; the exact venue is still to be announced. The event follows a loop format in which participants complete a 4.167 mile circuit once each hour. Completing one loop per hour for 24 hours totals 100 miles.

Each loop must be started at the top of the hour, signaled by a bell. Runners must be standing in the starting corral at the hour to continue; there are no late starts once the bell is rung. While on course, runners may not receive aid or pacing from others and must remain on the designated route, except to use the porta-potty. Between loops, runners may receive support from a crew or their own supplies at the start/finish area.

The event continues until only one runner remains; that runner must complete a final loop within the hour to be declared the winner. Runners who stop are recorded as DNF but their total distance will be captured in results. Crews are permitted and may set up chairs, coolers, and small tents in a designated area adjacent to the start/finish. Organizers will provide some food and fluids during the race and larger food options for participants once they are out of the race.
