The courses traverse very rough, remote terrain that is not easily accessible and can experience extreme weather conditions. The route features exposed ridgelines, significant elevation gain, and sections that require careful route management and self-sufficiency.

Aid stations are positioned along the courses and provide support, but runners are required to carry their own food, fluids, clothing, and other supplies between stations. Each runner must carry a minimum of 40 ounces of water. Lights are required for running after dark and may be enforced for safety.

Race-specific logistics include limited crewing and pacer rules: crew access on the 50 Mile course is restricted to a specified aid location and pacers are permitted only in the 50 Mile race. Drop bag locations are provided for certain distances and must be delivered to the start area by the stated deadlines.
