Courses run on single track trails, forest roads, and 4x4 jeep trails through remote sections of the Santa Ana Mountains. The race emphasizes self-sufficiency. Runners must carry their own food, clothing, and supplies between aid stations and a minimum of 40 oz of water. Lights are required for running after dark. Drop bag, crew, and pacer policies differ by distance; pacers are allowed in the 50 mile event and crew access is limited to specific aid locations. Time limits are published for each distance.
