Tampa Bay 100
The Tampa Bay 100 is a third year, point to point urban 100 mile endurance run through the Tampa Bay region. The route begins in Ybor City, passes through downtown Tampa, Safety Harbor, Dunedin, Clearwater and Gulf Blvd, and finishes near the 11th Ave Pier at Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg. The course is mostly flat with some bridges, totaling about 1,165 feet of elevation gain and about 1,218 feet of elevation loss.
The event uses a mix of directional cards and the CalTopo app for navigation. There are five staffed aid stations located at Courtney Campbell, Cooper’s Bayou, Dunedin, Indian Rocks Beach, and Gulfport with snacks, drinks, basic first aid supplies and hygiene items. Several supplies caches are placed between aid stations. Drop bags are allowed at Dunedin (between 50 and 60 miles) and Gulfport (near 80 miles). Hard cutoffs exist at Dunedin (19 hours) and Gulfport (29 hours) and the overall cutoff for an official finisher is 36.5 hours.
Crews and pacers must follow event rules. Crews must park legally, avoid disrupting traffic, and not pace from a moving vehicle. Pacers are subject to the same crew rules and must wear visible reflective gear and blinking lights front and back at night. Daytime pacing allows one pacer at a time; at night up to two pacers may accompany a runner. Mandatory items carried by each runner include a cell phone, event direction sheet, at least one water bottle or 20 oz hydration, headlamp with extra batteries, reflective gear, blinking lights, and the CalTopo app. The event is presented as a self guided endurance tour rather than a competitive race.
