Gopher Weedon Trail Run : 14th Annual, 8K Trail Run

The event is the 14th annual Gopher Weedon 8K Trail Run held on October 24, 2026 at the Weedon Island Preserve in Saint Petersburg, Florida (1800 Weedon Dr NE). The course covers approximately eight kilometers of natural trails through native Florida habitats and offers views of Tampa Bay.

Trails pass through mangroves, salt marsh and Florida scrub and follow well-maintained dirt and boardwalk surfaces. Participants may encounter wildlife such as the gopher tortoise and will see cultural features including relic Indian mounds and dune ridges. Organizers note that trails have changed after past storms and that mud is possible, so runners should watch their footing and be prepared for natural trail conditions. Bug spray is strongly suggested.

Registration opens June 6, 2026 and closes July 31, 2026; the registration fee listed is $45.00. There is no race day registration due to parking limitations. Advance packet pickup is available at Feet First St. Pete, 4949 4th St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33703, and race morning packet pickup takes place in the Auditorium of the Weedon Island Cultural and Natural History Center.

All registered participants receive a technical race shirt and professional timing with results. Awards, refreshments, aid stations and educational activities at the cultural center are provided. Proceeds benefit Friends of Weedon Island, Inc., a 501(c)3 organization. Pets are not permitted in the preserve. Strollers are allowed in the preserve but are not permitted on the race course.
