Gopher Weedon Trail Run
The Gopher Weedon Trail Run is the 14th annual 8K trail race held on October 24, 2026, at Weedon Island Preserve in northeast St. Petersburg, Florida. The course covers roughly 8 kilometers (4.9 miles) of natural trails and boardwalks through native Florida habitats, including mangroves, salt marsh and Florida scrub, with views of Tampa Bay. Runners and walkers may encounter wildlife such as the gopher tortoise and pass relic Indian mounds and dune ridges.
The event is professionally timed and offers overall male and female awards plus age-group awards. Registered participants receive a technical race T-shirt, professional race timing and results, refreshments and aid stations, and access to educational and cultural activities at the Cultural and Natural History Center. All proceeds benefit Friends of Weedon Island, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization supporting preservation and education at the preserve.
Advance packet pickup is scheduled the Friday before the race at Feet First St. Pete, 4949 4th St N, St. Petersburg. Race-morning packet pickup is available in the auditorium of the Cultural and Natural History Center. There is no race-day registration due to parking limitations. Pets are not permitted in the preserve. Strollers are allowed in the preserve but not on the race course. Parking is in the Cultural and Natural History Center lot and space is limited.
