Stuart Learmouth Undulator
The Stuart Learmouth Undulator is a BM-graded fell race held near Wirksworth. The course covers 13.7 km (8.5 miles) with 457 m (1500 ft) of ascent. The event in 2026 takes place on Sunday 27th September and starts from Stoney Wood above the Lime Kiln pub on Cromford Road, Wirksworth.
Entry is advance only at £10. Online entries open in January and close at 6pm on the Friday before the race. The event is open to anyone aged over 18 on 31st December of the race year. Runners are asked to bring their own cup for water. No refunds, no entries on the day and no substitution of entrant names are permitted.
The route is run under Fell Runners Association licence and follows varied terrain - steep climbs, drops, rocky sections, pastureland, trails and short road sections. The course climbs from reclaimed quarry woodland in Stoney Wood, circles Middle Peak Quarry, crosses fields toward Middleton Top, passes the High Peak Trail and reaches the trig point on Harborough Rocks before descending via crags to the High Peak Trail. The final miles run past Carsington Pastures and Carsington Water, up toward Middleton Top and then downhill back through Middle Peak Quarry to Stoney Wood for the finish. As an FRA fell race a GPX file is not provided.
The event began in 2011 and has run on the same route since; it was retitled as a memorial from 2013. Results and historical finish lists are maintained for past races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
