Cross Country Racing at Bells Mill Park

The Strider XC Classic is a cross country event held at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake, Virginia. The race serves as part of the Tidewater Strider Grand Prix, the Tidewater Striders Youth Grand Prix, and the Hampton Roads Super Grand Prix. The course features varying terrain, including grass and marshy sections, providing an alternative to standard road racing.

Participants can choose from several event distances:

  • 5K XC course
  • 1.5 mile Kids Classic course
  • 5K Competitive XC Race Walk

On-course support includes one aid station equipped with water and replacement drinks. All finishers receive medals for completing their respective events. Custom race T-shirts are provided to the first 150 participants in the 5K and Kids Classic categories. Those who register by April 24, 2026, are guaranteed their preferred shirt size, though a registration option without a shirt is available at a discounted rate.

The event concludes with an afterparty at Bells Mill Park. Participants with a race bib can receive refreshments such as lemonade and fruit punch, along with a catered Panera lunch box, available while supplies last. Awards are presented at the end of the 5K race for top overall finishers and various age groups ranging from 6 and under to 70 and over. Competitive walkers must walk the entire distance to remain eligible for awards within their specific division. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
