Windsor Castle 10-Hour

The Windsor Castle event takes place at Windsor Castle Park in Smithfield, VA, with a looped trail of about 3.1 miles and roughly 150 ft of elevation gain per loop. The loop is a smooth, groomed trail of packed dirt with some small packed gravel sections. The course passes through shaded and exposed areas and includes two low-traffic street crossings. The park is open, so other users may be on the course.

Multiple event options run on the same loop:

  • 10 hour event
  • 5 hour event
  • 2 hour event
  • one-lap 5k

Timing is manual and the event is described as low-key. A staffed aid station provides water, soda, chips, pretzels, watermelon, bananas, oranges, gummy snacks, granola bars, cookies, freeze pops and warm food served during the day. All participants are required to carry a hydration device while on course.

A rucking category is available for the 10, 5 and 2 hour events. Required ruck weights are 30 lbs for people 150 lbs or more and 20 lbs for people under 150 lbs; exceptions can be requested from the race director. Runners may set up chairs or tents no larger than 10x10 near the trail. Awards are given to the top three men and women in each event and all finishers receive a homemade finisher's medal or item. If miles tie, the faster time wins the award. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
