Frightening 4 Trail Run/Hike
The Frightening 4 is a Halloween themed trail run and hike held at York River State Park in Williamsburg, VA on October 10, 2026. This is the first running of the four mile course and the route uses a trail in the park not previously used by an event.
The course distance is 4 miles. Trails are dirt with rolling hills, roots and twists. Part of the route follows the York River and offers water views. About three of the four miles are narrow single track and roughly one mile is a wider gravel trail.
Both runners and hikers are welcome. The event is non competitive; all finishers receive a finisher medal. Official times will be posted but there are no overall or age group awards. A two hour time limit applies. Costumes are encouraged and those wearing a costume receive a race logo temporary tattoo.
Parking is included and the parking area is close to the start and finish. Indoor restrooms are near the parking area. No aid stations are on the course so participants should carry their own water if needed. Leashed dogs are allowed but trails are mainly single file. If a finish is expected to take longer than 1.5 hours or if conditions are cloudy, personal illumination is recommended. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
