Event Overview

The Steel City Human vs Horse is a simultaneous trail running and horseback endurance race. It is modeled after similar race formats in the UK and Arizona. Runners on foot and riders on horseback start together to see who can complete the course faster.

Distances and Format

Distances for both runners and riders are:

  • 50k
  • 50M

The event is a trail race on a mix of single track, gravel road, and grassy meadow. No prior experience with horses is necessary for runners. All participants are required to attend a pre-race safety meeting to discuss trail etiquette. The equestrian race is sanctioned by the American Endurance Ride Conference (AERC).

Event Details

Camping will be available for both horses and humans. The event operates rain or shine. If trail conditions are dangerous, the course will be rerouted to gravel roads.

Time Limits and Cutoffs

All participants must be off the course by 8:30 PM (sunset). For runners, the time limits are 14 hours for the 50M, 13 hours for the 50k, and 8 hours for the Half Marathon.
