Green Mile Loop Challenge
The Green Mile Loop Challenge is a free, timed loop event organized by the North Park Trail Runners, a local non-profit. The course uses a marked trail loop that departs from the Deer Browse 2 pavilion near the North Park swimming pool parking lot and across from Harmar Shelter. The loop is run counter clockwise with a slight variation in route.
The loop profile is approximately 2 miles in distance with about 300 feet of elevation gain per loop. The route is mostly single track and the course is fully shaded. Participants run repeated circuits within a six hour window. After each circuit, runners mark a tally next to their name on the tracker board and receive one raffle ticket per completed loop.
A race clock is used and participants must note their check out time on the tracker board. In the event of a tie for top looper, the completion time is used to determine the fastest looper. Awards are given to the top female and top male participants and additional recognition is provided for high-volume loopers. Raffle rules limit winners to one prize each and prevent repeat raffle winners.
Entry to the event is free. Donations are accepted online, in cash at the organizer's events, or via merchandise sold at the event. Participants must be 18 years of age or older to take part. A lunch is provided after the loops and a raffle is held with donated prizes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
