The South Pennine 24 takes place on Saturday 28 February 2026 and is organised by the South Pennine Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA). The event is based at Dovestone Sailing Club, Dovestone Reservoir, Bank Lane, Greenfield, OL3 7NE. Entry is open to people aged 18 or older. Entry fees are £17 for LDWA members and £25 for non-members. Entries are limited to 150 places and 134 participants are entered so far.

Route and support

The route is 24 miles long with 3,900 ft of ascent through the Dark Peak and the South Pennine Moors. Terrain includes wild moorland, well graded footpaths and bridleways. The event is intended for walkers and runners who are competent and suitably equipped for long distance winter events. The event provides drinks and pastries, food and drink at four checkpoints, and soup at the finish; certificates are available to finishers on request. A route description and a walked GPX file will be emailed to entrants from mid February. Adjoining pay-and-display parking is available at the venue (currently £4.70). Dogs are not permitted.
