Snap Dragon at Sunset Mountain

Snap Dragon is an elimination-style trail event held at Sunset Mountain in Noel, Missouri (6122 Route H, 64854). The event is an annual fundraiser to support Sunset Mountain and is open to participants aged 18 and older.

Runners complete repeated laps of 0.86 miles on the Snap Dragon trail. A new lap starts every 12 minutes; any runner who fails to complete a lap within 12 minutes or is the last to finish a lap is eliminated. The race runs for 180 minutes with an additional race-off lap if needed to determine the top finishers. Top competitors may run approximately 13.1 miles in total.

Terrain combines forest trails with loose gravel and large rocks, steep downhills, a cow pasture section, and a finish on a gravel driveway. The course gains approximately 215 feet in elevation from the starting gate. The organizer describes the trail as physically demanding and twisty, which affects pacing and footing.

Entry is limited to the first 25 paid participants. Registration opens April 11, 2026 and closes October 17, 2026. The registration fee is $52. Each paid entry includes entrance to Sunset Mountain on race day for the participant and one guest. Awards recognize the top male and female finishers and embroidered robes are presented; awards are given immediately after the race. Free dinner is provided on race day.
