Slough and Steady

Slough and Steady is an endurance event held at Perry Lake near Ozawkie, Kansas. The course utilizes the Perry Lake trail system, which is divided into five distinct sections for this event. The trail is identified by blue paint on trees and posts, supplemented by reflective blue arrows and double marks to indicate turns.

The terrain varies throughout the course, starting with a section from Apple Valley that features significant elevation changes and high bluffs overlooking Lake Perry. Participants encounter woodlands, timber, drainage areas, field crossings, and sections of gravel or low-maintenance dirt roads. The 50k loop includes a total of 3,300 feet of elevation gain. A final creek crossing is located near the return to the finish area.

Available distances include:

  • 125 Mile
  • 100k
  • 50k
  • 25k

The 25k distance follows a specific out-and-back route from the start at Apple Valley to the first manned aid station at the Old Military Trail trailhead, located approximately 7.5 miles into the course. Runners at this distance check in at the station before retracing their steps to the finish.

Course logistics include both unmanned water drops and fully stocked manned aid stations. Manned stations are located at the Old Military Trail trailhead, the Lowry school building, the Slough Creek boat ramp, and the Slough Creek campground. Certain sections of the course require crossing Ferguson Road and Kiowa Road, where participants must watch for vehicle traffic. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
