The main loop is divided into five sections. The 50K loop includes about 3,300 feet of elevation gain. Trails are marked with blue paint and occasional reflective blue arrows; a double blue mark indicates a distinct right or left turn. The first section leaves the start/finish at Apple Valley, passes Longview Park, skirts Lake Perry and includes high bluffs. An unmanned water drop sits about 4.7 miles into that section, and about 3.5 miles later the Old Military Trail trailhead hosts the first fully stocked manned aid station. That aid station is the turnaround for the 25K course; 25K runners check in there and return to the start/finish.
Subsequent sections vary between creekside singletrack, runnable gravel on Kiowa Road and 82nd Street, and remote timber and field crossings. Aid stations are located at the Old Military Trail trailhead, the old Lowry school building, the Slough Creek boat ramp, and the Slough Creek campground.
