Slough and Steady

Ozawkie, United States • 19 Dec 2026

Event Overview

The Slough and Steady is a trail running event taking place near Ozawkie, Kansas. The course utilizes the Perry Lake trail system, which is divided into five distinct sections. The trail is marked primarily with blue paint on trees and posts, occasionally supplemented by reflective blue arrows. A double blue mark indicates a sharp turn. These markings are designed to be clearly visible in December.

Course and Distances

The event offers four distance options:

  • 125 Mile
  • 100K
  • 50K
  • 25K

The full 50K loop features approximately 3,300 feet of elevation gain. The trail passes through varied terrain including woodlands, along Lake Perry, over high bluffs, and across fields and drainage areas. Sections of the route follow gravel roads like Kiowa Road and 82nd street, which is described as a low-maintenance dirt road that can be muddy. There is one creek crossing near the finish that may require getting feet wet, depending on conditions.

Aid Stations

The course includes both manned and unmanned aid points. The first section from the start/finish at Apple Valley has an unmanned water drop at 4.7 miles, followed by the first fully stocked, manned aid station at the Old Military Trail trailhead parking lot. This point serves as the turnaround for the 25K distance. Further manned aid stations are located at an old school building on Kiowa Road, the Slough Creek boat ramp, and the Slough Creek campground.
