The event takes place in Casper, Wyoming, with all parking, start and finish areas, and post-race activities at the Casper Mountain Trails Center (9301 Casper Mountain Rd, Casper, WY 82601). It offers two formats on the same course layout.

• 8 mile - two laps, about 4.17 miles per lap.
• Backyard Ultra - repeated 4.17 mile lap until one runner remains.

For the 8 mile option the lap direction alternates by year: even-numbered years run clockwise and odd-numbered years run counterclockwise. For the Backyard Ultra a coin toss will determine the direction for each lap. The Backyard Ultra is listed on the Bigs Backyard Ultra database.

Registration details are specified for each option. Only the first 75 total registrants will receive the race souvenir; the souvenir will not be available after that limit. Entry fees listed are $50 for the 8 mile and $60 for the Backyard Ultra, with prices increasing on June 18 and again for day-before registrations payable by cash or check. Due to upfront costs and fees there are no refunds or rollovers. There is no race day registration.
