Event overview

The Night Crawler Endurance Challenge is an overnight time-based running event on Casper Mountain held August 14-15, 2026. WYRun partnered with Fat Fish Racing for the 2026 weekend, which also includes the Bear Bait 8 XC mountain bike race on August 15. The organizer presents the Night Crawler as central Wyoming's only time-based solo and relay event run overnight.

Race formats and awards

Race options include:

  • 4-hour solo
  • 12-hour solo
  • 12-hour 4-person relay

Every participant receives a finisher award. First-place overall awards are given to the top Female and Male solo runners in both the 12-hour and 4-hour divisions, and to the winning 12-hour 4-person relay. There are additional awards planned for competitors who participate in both the Night Crawler run and the Bear Bait mountain bike event. A hot breakfast is provided to participants after completion, prepared by volunteers.

Course and logistics

The event is based at the Nordic stadium near the Casper Mountain Trails Center (9301 Casper Mountain Rd), with access to the Trails Center parking lot. The lap course runs atop 8,100-foot Casper Mountain on forested single track and cross-country ski trails with minimal to moderate technical sections. Runners change direction each lap, with odd-numbered laps run clockwise and even-numbered laps run counterclockwise. Tower Hill campground lies along the course and camping spots can be reserved inside the county park; participants are asked to follow current county rules. Hit the trails in Casper on May 16 for Trail Mix Run Wyoming at Mike Sedar Park, with creeks, hills and muddy singletrack. Pick a 3 mile accessible route, a tougher 10 mile course, or run virtually from anywhere.

Trail event on Casper Mountain with an 8-mile two-lap race and a Backyard Ultra running a 4.17-mile loop hourly; the loop is about 4.15–4.20 miles with 450 feet gain on forested single-track at 7,800–8,100 ft.
