SilverBackTrails Lamplighter 40

The Lamplighter 40 is an all night trail running event across the North York Moors, held on 20 to 21 June 2026. The circular route starts and finishes at Goathland Village Hall and is run from sunset to sunrise. The planned duration is circa 12 hours and entrants must be 18 or older.

The course follows good tracks, open moorland and forestry and includes triangulation pillars, cairns, crosses and other checkpoint locations. There will be marker flags on parts of the route and a GPX file and a master map will be provided. Each entrant receives a tracker. One indoor checkpoint will serve pizza and hot and cold drinks, and there will be refreshments, water, fizzy pop and snacks at multiple checkpoint locations.

Entrants are limited to 40. Entry options are solo or pair with fees published as £50 for solo and £95 for a pair. An optional event technical T shirt is available via the club shop for £18. All finishers receive a Lamplighter medal and there are mementos for the first female and first male finishers. Participants may rest in the village hall before travelling home.

Mandatory kit requirements include a map of the North Yorkshire Moors, working compass and whistle, headtorch plus spare torch or batteries, emergency bivvy, spare hat and gloves, spare warm top, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams unless Paramo, battery pack and charging lead, a charged mobile phone with the race director contact and recommended location apps, at least 500 ml of water, at least 60 g of emergency food and a cup for drinks at checkpoints. Trail runs nearby

A 3.6 km off-road trail around the grounds of Sledmere House presented alongside the Sledmere Sunset Trail 10K. Chip timing and a finisher medal are provided; a free 500 m fun run is available for young children.

A trail running event at Guisborough Rugby Club offering 40 km and 60 km options plus a 60 km relay. Profits are donated to Teesside Samaritans and the routes were updated from 2025.

A looped forest ultra of ten 5.5 km laps totaling 55 km, Dalby's Inferno raises funds for Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue team and includes event entry plus two nights camping and basic onsite facilities.

Trail races from Chop Gate with three distances : Marathon (28), Half 16.5 and 10k 9.5. Entries limited to 330, mandatory safety kit is required and competitors must print route maps and navigate themselves.
