SilverBackTrails Lamplighter 20

The Lamplighter 20 is an overnight trail event held around Goathland Village Hall on a circular route across the North York Moors. The course visits triangulation pillars and other checkpoint locations and uses good tracks, open moorland and forestry. Navigation is supported with a GPX file, a master map and a tracker issued to each entrant; some pre-event recces of the route are likely.

The event runs from dusk to dawn and entrants have 6.5 hours to return to Goathland Village Hall. Entrants register and collect numbers before the run. Finishers receive a Lamplighter medal and there are mementos for the first male and first female finishers. Hot food is available at the finish, with vegetarian and gluten-free options. Refreshments, water and snacks are provided at checkpoint locations, and there will be one indoor checkpoint on the course. Participants may rest in the village hall before travelling home. Parking at the village hall is limited to marshals; there is additional parking in the village.

Entries are limited to 40 and the minimum age is 18. Entry options and fees listed by the organiser include solo and paired entries. Mandatory kit must be carried by each entrant; this includes a map covering the North York Moors, a working compass and whistle, head-torch plus spare torch or batteries, an emergency bivvy bag, spare hat and gloves, a spare warm long-sleeved top, waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams unless Paramo, a battery pack and charging lead, a charged mobile phone with the race director number, at least 500 ml of water, at least 60 g of emergency food, and a cup for drinks at checkpoints.
