Signpost Challenge Hike

Hosted by South Manchester LDWA and based in Marple, this hilly and scenic route heads north and east of Marple. The course passes over Werneth Low, Cown Edge, Lantern Pike and Chinley Churn in the High Peak and returns via the Goyt Valley way. Routes pass through villages and areas of industrial heritage, and the long route crosses the Millennium walkway in New Mills. Participants are asked to look out for the distinctive green PNFS footpath signs along the way.

There is a choice of two routes to be completed within ten hours:

  • 24 miles / 4,300 ft ascent
  • 17 miles / 3,000 ft ascent

Each route has three outdoor checkpoints and one indoor checkpoint. The long route uses the Scout Hut in Hayfield as the indoor checkpoint; the short route uses the Children's Inn at Rowarth. Checkpoints provide a selection of drinks and snacks. Entry includes tea, coffee and pastries at the start, snacks and drinks at checkpoints, a hot meal at the finish and a certificate for finishers. Participants should bring a mug for drinks. Dogs are not permitted.

Event headquarters and the start and finish are at Marple Senior Citizens Hall, Memorial Park Drive, Marple SK6 6BA.
