Signpost Challenge Hike
Signpost Challenge Hike is organised by South Manchester LDWA and based at Marple Senior Citizens Hall in Memorial Park Drive, Marple SK6 6BA. It is presented in its third year.
The route is hilly and scenic, heading north and east of Marple and passing over Werneth Low, Cown Edge, Lantern Pike and Chinley Churn in the High Peak before returning to Marple via the Goyt Valley way. The long route crosses the Millennium walkway in New Mills. If the weather is kind, there are views over Manchester, the South Pennines and the Peak District. Routes pass through villages and areas of industrial heritage.
There are two route options:
- 24 miles, 4,300 ft total ascent, to be completed within 10 hours
- 17 miles, 3,000 ft total ascent, to be completed within 10 hours
Each route includes three outdoor control points and one indoor control point, with drinks and snacks provided at the controls. The long route uses the Scout Hut in Hayfield as an indoor control point; the short route uses the Children’s Inn at Rowarth. Participants are asked to bring a mug for drinks.
Parking is available on Chadwick Street and Hollins Lane public car parks; Memorial Park parking is not available due to building works. Entry fee includes tea, coffee and pastries at the start, snacks and drinks at control points, and a hot meal at the finish. Certificates are provided for all finishers. Dogs are not permitted. The minimum age is 16 or older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
