Seven Sisters Skyline
The Seven Sisters Skyline is a mountain running event held in the Derryveagh Mountains of County Donegal. The course traverses a dramatic mountain range, stretching from Errigal to Muckish. The event is part of the Skyrunning UK & Ireland Series and has previously featured in the World Mountain Running World Cup. It is designed for participants who are prepared for technical trails, steep climbs, and rocky summits.
The event offers three distinct distance categories:
- 55 km - Known as the Full Skyline, this route includes 4,000m+ of elevation gain and summits six peaks.
- 30 km - The Skyline Challenge is a point-to-point route following the traverse from Muckish to Errigal.
- 16 km - The Skyline Intro starts at Altan Track and visits Altan Castle before joining the higher mountain tracks.
The 55 km and 30 km distances are recognized as UTMB Index races, allowing participants to collect points for the UTMB World Series. Additionally, the 55 km event hosts the National Series Skyrunning Championships.
The terrain is characterized by razor-sharp ridges and fast, technical descents. Participants encounter varied landscapes including the Miners Path, open mountainside, and peaks such as Aghla Mór and Mackoght. There is a combined prize purse of €10,000 across the two longer distances, with specific awards for the top five male and female finishers.
