Scarr
Event Overview
The Scarr mountain running event takes place in Wicklow County on Wednesday 3rd June 2026. The event features a main course with a distance of 8.60 km and a total climb of 400 m. A shorter course of 5.00 km is also available.
Route Details
This year's route largely follows the one last used in 2023. It starts on a new fire road at the top of Gaffney's Lane, where the Wicklow Way turns. The initial section is a gradual rise along a trail with forestry on the right, leading to a wall. From there, a steep, single-track climb through bracken and heather ascends 200 metres over 1 km to the main ridge of Scarr.
The course then follows a wall clockwise around Scarr. After the wall ends, a marshal will direct runners to turn right for the final steep ascent to the Scarr summit. The descent follows the ridge southeast to the Wicklow Way, then turns left past Brusher Gap Hut to the finish line.
