Scarr
Scarr
Scarr is a mountain running event in County Wicklow that follows a largely waymarked route on upland trails and ridge. The main course distance is 8.60 km with a short course of 5.00 km. Total climb is listed as 400 m and the event difficulty is rated for difficult terrain with 200 m - 500 m ascent and a 6 km - 10 km distance range.
The route starts on a new fire road at the point where the Wicklow Way turns near Gaffney's Lane and rises gradually before a steep, varied climb to the main Scarr ridge. That climb gains about 200 m in 1 km. The course then follows a wall clockwise around Scarr, with some wire on the ground in places, and a marshall directs runners into the final ascent to Scarr summit. The route finishes after a descent along the ridge to the Wicklow Way and past Brusher Gap Hut. Route marking is complete and GPS use is allowed.
