Scarr

Scarr is a mountain running event in County Wicklow organised by the Irish Mountain Running Association. The main course is 8.60 km with 400 m of climb, and a short course of 5.00 km is also offered. The route is fully marked and GPS devices are allowed. The event difficulty is rated for difficult terrain with 200–500 m ascent and a 6–10 km distance band.

The route starts on a fire road and rises gradually before a steep, varied-terrain climb to the main ridge of Scarr, gaining about 200 m over 1 km (approximately 20% gradient). The course follows the ridge and wall clockwise, with a marshall directing the main field into a steep final ascent to the summit, then a long descent to the Wicklow Way and past Brusher Gap Hut to the finish. Runners should be aware of some wire on the ground in places alongside the wall.

Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over-65s and under-18s. Entries open Monday 1 June 2026 and close Wednesday 3 June 2026. Capacity is listed as 200 places.

Level B mandatory kit is required: a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Kit checks may be carried out and failure to have required items can lead to denial of entry or disqualification. Registration procedures include signing in, collecting a race number and having a timing chip scanned; the race number is retained for the 2025 race year.

Prizegiving will be at Kavanagh's Vartry House, Roundwood, Co. Wicklow A98 K611. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
