Dun Holm Challenge - Day 2

The event is Day 2 of the Dun Holm Challenge series and takes place at Durham Amateur Rowing Club, Green Ln, Old Elvet, Durham DH1 3JU on 22 May 2026. It is presented as a 7 hour Time Challenge that lets participants choose how many laps to run within the time limit. The minimum distance is 5 km which forms part of a full lap. A full lap is 4.37 miles (7 km); organisers note they may instead use a 3.28 mile course and will confirm closer to the event.

The course follows a stretch of the River Wear with views of the Cathedral and is classified as a trail run. The route is fully signed and uses public footpaths so no navigation experience is required. Headphones are allowed and walkers are welcome.

Distances available include:

  • 3 km
  • 5 km
  • 10 km
  • Half Marathon
  • Marathon
  • 50 km

Finishers who complete at least one lap receive a Durham themed finisher medal. Distance pins are awarded for half-marathon distance and above. A goody bag is provided with a vegan option on request. An aid table and drinks are available at the start finish area for each lap. Toilets and changing facilities are at race HQ. Bag drop is available but unstaffed and items are left at the participant's responsibility. Pay and display parking is available in the city centre and nearby streets. Final race instructions will be sent by email and race numbers are collected at registration on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
