Saturn 7 Hour Time Challenge - Gilesgate

SATURN - GNR & Time Turner 2026, Durham

This is a seven hour timed run held at Durham Amateur Rowing Club on a signed trail course along the River Wear with views of the Cathedral. The event uses a lap format so participants choose how many laps to complete within the seven hour period. The route is classified as trail and is fully signed.

Distances and lap notes:

  • Minimum distance: 3 km (part of a lap)
  • Full lap: 7 km (4.37 miles) subject to change
  • Alternative loop may be 3.28 miles
  • Half marathon equals 3 laps
  • Marathon equals 6 laps
  • Ultra equals 7 or more laps
  • 50 km distance available

Support and facilities are provided at the start and finish of each lap with drinks and a selection of savoury and sweet snacks, including vegan options. Finishers who complete at least 3 km receive a medal; runners who reach half marathon distance or more receive a distance pin attached to their medal. Finishers also receive a goody bag, with a vegan goody bag option available.

Practical details: toilets and changing are available at the race HQ. A bag drop area is provided but is unstaffed and items are left at the participant's responsibility. Free on-street parking is nearby and city centre pay and display parking is available. Headphones are permitted.

Age and entry limits: minimum age 12 years. Runners over 45 km must be at least 20 years old; ages 18 and 19 may run up to 45 km. Maximum entrants 300. Entries close 29/08/2026. Participate in a 9 km fell race through the Durham countryside north of Stanhope. This event is part of the North East Fell Running Championships and features a 300 m climb for runners aged 18 and over.

A muddy 5 km obstacle course at Town Moor, Newcastle on 11 July 2026 with climbs, crawls and slides. The event has a £50 fundraising target, labelled entry fees, and limited on-site parking and accessibility.

The The Sting Backyard Ultra will take place in Richmond (North Yorkshire) on Saturday 11 July 2026. You can run between 4 and 7 kilometers.

Chapelfell Top is an AS graded 7 km fell race in St. John’s Chapel, Weardale featuring 400 m of ascent to the 703 m summit and a return on the same route. The event is organised by Durham Fell Runners and run under FRA rules.
