Sandia Mountain Shadows Trail Run

Sandia Mountain Shadows Trail Run is the 22nd annual event held on October 4, 2026 at Piedra Lisa Park in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The event offers two trail race distances:

  • 10K: 6.21 Miles
  • 5K: 3.12 Miles

The course passes the Sandia Mountain foothills and offers views of the Rio Grande Valley, Albuquerque, and hot air balloons below. All 10K and 5K participants receive finisher medals and event shirts. Overall and age-group awards are given, with the top three men and women receiving overall awards determined by gun time.

Packet pickup is scheduled the day before the event at Fleet Feet Sports in North Towne Plaza, with a race morning pickup window for out-of-town participants. All participants receive a bib number that must be worn on the front of clothing; a timing chip worn on the back of the bib is required to record official finish times and for award eligibility. Bibs are non-transferable.

Course hydration includes water and Powerade. Fuel stations are located approximately at Mile 1.75 on the 5K, and at approximately Miles 2.25 and 4.50 on the 10K. The course is marked with traffic cones and orange flag rods; mile markers are not present. Medical staff and radio communications are positioned along the course and at aid stations. Parking near the park is limited; participants are asked to use side streets rather than the north side of Menaul which is reserved for the course.
