Oak Flats Picnic Trails

Oak Flats Picnic Trails is scheduled for September 12, 2026 at the Oak Flats Group Picnic Area in Tijeras, NM. The event is free and open to all abilities and to dogs. It is organized as a self supported trail event; participants should carry their own fuel and hydration. The organizer will maintain a picnic table at the start/finish area with water and some electrolyte mixes and a few paper maps for reference.

The route system uses looped trails. Two loop options are described: a short loop of about 3.2 miles and a long loop of about 6.2 miles. Runners may combine loops to complete distances between 5k and 30k; the maximum allowed distance for the event is 30k. The course is not marked and participants are asked to download GPX files or program a GPS device in advance. Check in and check out at the aid station is used to document distance and time, and moving time will be used for placement.

Organizers note a participant limit for the course of 70 people. The trails are shared with horses, hikers and bikers. Pit toilets are available near the picnic tables. Participants are asked to stay on trails, use designated bathrooms, clean up after dogs, and use bear proof trash cans or pack out litter.
