Oak Flats Picnic Trails
This is a free, self supported looped trail event at Oak Flats Group Picnic Area in Tijeras, NM on September 12, 2026. The event is open to all abilities and welcomes dogs. Participants must register for free on UltraSignUp and the participant field is limited.
Participants choose their distance between 5k and 30k using combinations of two loop options. Distances available include:
- 5k
- 10k
- 15k
- 20k
- 25k
- 30k
Course details include a short loop of about 3.2 miles and a long loop of about 6.2 miles. The course is looped and runners change direction each lap. Trails are not marked; runners should download GPX files or bring a GPS device. Paper maps will be available at the aid station for those without GPS.
The event is cupless and self supported. A picnic table at the start and finish serves as the aid station where participants check in and out, log distances and times, and may find some water and electrolyte mixes. Final placement follows the honor system using moving time. The route is shared with horses, hikers and bikers, and participants are responsible for staying on trails and packing out trash.
There is no onsite camping or overnight parking; nearby towns and Forest Service campgrounds serve as lodging options. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
