Oak Flats Picnic Trails
This is a free, self-supported trail event held in Tijeres, New Mexico, on trails within Cibola National Forest. The event is open to all abilities and allows dogs. The start and finish of each lap is at a picnic table aid station where participants check in and out; the organizer will have some water and electrolyte mixes available.
The route is a looped course run in alternating directions each lap. Routes are unmarked; participants are expected to familiarize themselves with the trails, download GPX files or program a GPS device. A small number of paper maps will be available at the aid station. Course distances are estimates and may vary as trails change over time.
Facilities and support: pit toilets managed by the U.S. Forest Service are onsite, and additional pit toilets are available off the long course at Pine Flats. There is no fresh water on course. This is a cupless event; participants should bring their own hydration container and fuel. The aid station serves as the sign-in/out point and a place to leave personal items or share supplies with other runners.
Volunteers are requested to staff the aid station to check participants in and out and to help manage the area. A course preview is planned for midyear with opportunities to record route data on common platforms. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
