Oak Flats Picnic Trails

This is a self supported trail event in Tijeres, New Mexico, held on trails within Cibola National Forest. The event is free and open to all abilities and interests, including dogs. A picnic table at the start/finish serves as the aid station where participants check in and out; the organizer will provide some water, electrolyte mixes, and extra water on site. The event is cupless; participants should bring their own hydration container and personal fuel.

Participants choose a total distance between 5k and 30k and complete that distance by running laps of the short and long loop options. The course is a looped layout run clockwise on the first lap and with direction switched each subsequent lap. All course distances are estimates and trail routes can change over time.

The course is not marked. Participants should familiarize themselves in advance, download the provided GPX files or program a GPS device. A few paper maps will be available at the aid station for those without GPS tools.

Restrooms include pit toilets onsite managed by the US Forest Service and additional pit toilets at Pine Flats off the long course. There is no fresh water on course. Participants are expected to protect the land: stay on trails, use designated bathrooms, use bear proof trash cans at trailheads or pack out trash, and clean up after dogs.

A course preview is planned in June or July and volunteers are sought to staff the aid station and to record GPS traces of the laps. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
