Turquoise Trail Ultra
Turquoise Trail Ultra is a trail running event held on the historic Turquoise Trail through Gutierrez Canyon Open Space near Cedar Crest, New Mexico. The course is 100 percent singletrack through high desert piñon and juniper with views of the Sandia Mountains and contains real climbing, typically over 1,000 feet of elevation gain per lap.
Three distances share the same loop:
- 13K, one lap, 1,023 ft gain
- 26K, two laps, 2,046 ft gain
- 52K, four laps, 4,092 ft gain, 10 hour cutoff for the race
The start and finish are in the parking lot off Highway 14, with overflow parking at Mountain Christian Church about 0.25 mi north and a sidewalk to the start. Packet pickup is offered the day before at Rumor Brewing Company and on race day at the start area.
Two aid stations are available: the start/finish and an on course station at approximately 4.6 miles. Aid stations are stocked with water, Skratch, chips, cookies, bananas, vegetable soup or broth, and a mix of salty and sweet snacks. This is a cupless event; participants should bring a cup or bottle or may purchase a reusable Running Wild cup at packet pickup for five dollars.
