Run with the Burros is a pack burro race and trail run scheduled for April 10, 2027 in Ridgecrest, California. The event offers multiple trail distances and allows competitors to run with a burro or as runners without burros in separate categories.
There are four distances:
- 26.2 miles trail marathon
- 18 miles
- 10 miles
- 5 miles introductory distance
The event moved to a new location after the previous site was sold to a mining company. Pending approval, the start and finish are planned at Cerro Coso Community College, which adds on-site water, electricity, shade, and restrooms. The courses use local trails with hills, historic mine features, and views toward the Sierra Nevada and the Mojave Desert.
Burro teams and runners compete on the same courses with a slightly staggered start that places burros ahead. Burro camping is available Friday and Saturday at the start and finish area, with water, corral pens, and possible showers; that camping is for burros and their handlers only. Organizers provide information on pack burro rules, course maps, lodging, and camping guidelines. Proceeds benefit California Breakfast Burritos and Forever Home Donkey Rescue & Sanctuary, both volunteer charitable organizations. Registration opens October 10, 2026.
