Run with the Burros

Run with the Burros is a Pack Burro Race and trail run held in Inyokern, California, near Highway 14 and Indian Wells Canyon Road. The event takes place on the second Saturday of April, with dates for 2026–2030 pending Bureau of Land Management approval. It is organized as a fundraising event with all proceeds going to charitable, 100% volunteer organizations supporting donkeys and related causes.

There are four course options, with approximate distances listed below. All distances are open to burro-and-runner teams and to runners without burros in separate categories on the same course. Starts are slightly staggered so burros begin before runners.

• 26.2 miles trail marathon
• 18 miles
• 10 miles
• 5 miles introductory distance

Teams are groups of three or more in the 10 mile distance and compete for an extra prize. Teams of five or more may receive one free entry if they contact the race director before registration to obtain a 100% discount code.

Accommodations are available in nearby Ridgecrest, including a discounted hotel rate offered for the event, and camping options are available. Participants are asked to follow local Bureau of Land Management camping guidance and to respect local wildlife such as ground squirrels and desert tortoises.
