Courses and logistics

The 30K and 50K use loop courses on rolling desert terrain over dirt roads, with elevation varying from about 2400 ft to 3500 ft. Temperatures on race day can vary widely. Nine aid stations are on the 30K/50K courses and are stocked with water, Skratch, cookies, and similar items; participants are advised to carry a water bottle between aid stations. Ibuprofen is not provided. The 10K route goes through the old Goldbug Mining area and joins the 30K course near Gracie's aid station; 10K finishers receive a handmade medallion and first-place male and female receive awards.

Rules and awards

Age requirements apply: entrants must meet minimum ages for each distance. There is an intermediate cutoff at Gracie's aid station (located about 24.8 miles on the 50K and 15.1 miles on the 30K) and a cutoff at the finish. Early starters are recorded as finishers but are not eligible for awards. All finishers receive a handmade ceramic medal. Age-group awards are given 3-deep in standard age brackets for the 30K and 50K, with a separate military division prize available.
