Run the Rails : Elburn, IL

Run the Rails is presented by the Elburn Parks Commission and takes place on August 22, 2026, at Prairie Park (North Street and 3rd Street) in Elburn, Illinois. The event includes multiple distance options with all courses starting and finishing at Prairie Park near the library.

  • 1 mile fun run/walk
  • 4 mile run
  • 7 mile run

Course routes cross the Union Pacific West rail line via the Anderson Road bridge and include views of Elburn and the surrounding countryside. Chip timing is used for all races via a disposable timing tag attached to the race bib; bibs must be worn on the front and kept uncovered for accurate timing. Organizers note that smart watches and phones can interfere with the timing chip.

Pre-race packet pickup is scheduled on August 20 at Pro Fusion in Geneva and August 21 at Knight Club Nutrition in Elburn. Packet pickup is also available on race day, and race day registration is offered for an additional fee. Parking is available around the event site; a course and parking map is provided by the organizer.

Awards are distributed as follows: all participants age 1 to 12 in the 1 mile fun run receive a medal. For the 4 mile and 7 mile races, awards go to the top three male and female overall and the top three male and female in standard age groups from 9 and under through 70 and older. Race apparel is available; registering by August 11 guarantees a racerback or tank top. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
