Run the Rails : Elburn, IL

Run the Rails is an organized running event presented by the Elburn Parks Commission, held at Prairie Park (3rd and North Street) in Elburn, Illinois on August 22, 2026. The event offers three distance options:

  • 1-mile fun run/walk
  • 4-mile run
  • 7-mile run

All races start and finish at Prairie Park. The courses cross the Union Pacific West rail line via the Anderson Road bridge, providing views of Elburn and the surrounding countryside. Timing for the 1-mile, 4-mile and 7-mile events uses a disposable chip mounted on the back of the race bib; bibs must be worn on the front to record times. The event notes that smart watches and smartphones can interfere with chip timing.

Packet pickup is available before race day at Pro Fusion (31 N 2nd St, Geneva) and at Knight Club Nutrition (99 East North Street, Elburn), with additional packet pickup on race day. Walk-in and race day registration are provided; race day registration incurs an additional fee. Registrants who want a racerback or tank top must register by August 11 to guarantee that item; limited extras may be available after that date.

Awards are given to all participants ages 1-12 in the 1-mile fun run. For the 4- and 7-mile races, awards are presented to the top three male and female overall and to the top three male and female in multiple age groups. There is ample parking near the event.
