Run the Caves

The Run the Caves Ultra and Trail race is hosting its 3rd annual event. A portion of all registration fees is donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). The organization promotes green initiatives and the event is cup-free.

The course takes place in the Warsaw Caves Conservation Area, nestled in the Indian River valley, about 25 minutes outside Peterborough. The terrain is described as sweet single track, soft forest floor with rocks and tree roots, some sandy beach, and a handful of gravel roads. The views include wide-open vistas and areas covered under large, old-growth trees.

The distances offered are:

  • 1 km kids run for children 12 and under
  • 5 km walk/run
  • 10 km walk/run
  • 25 km half-ultra
  • 50 km
  • 15 km virtual run (to be completed between October 1-7)

New team/duo events are offered for the 25 km and 50 km distances. This is a bib and chip-timed event. Hand-made race medals are given to all participants, and prizes are awarded to the top male and female in each distance category. Merchandise (head buffs, trucker hats, socks, t-shirts) is available for purchase during registration.

The conservation area offers recreational opportunities including camping, day-use picnic sites, swimming, fishing, and hiking. Twenty kilometers of mostly single-track trails meander through forests and across open limestone plains. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
