Run Saysutshun
Run Saysutshun takes place on Saysutshun Island, a site that the Snuneymuxw people associate with traditional natural medicine and physical and spiritual healing. The event offers multiple timed and fixed-distance races held over a 24-hour window. The island features cedar groves, oak meadows, sandstone cliffs, and coastal lookouts, and is known locally for sightings of a white raccoon.
Distances and event formats include:
- 24-hour
- 12-hour
- 6-hour
- Half marathon
- 10 km
Course
The course is a roughly 10 km single-track loop that follows the coastal perimeter of the island. Runners complete as many full loops as required by their race distance or allowed time. Near the end of each race, a short campground loop is used for final laps so participants can maximize recorded distance without timing out. If a runner does not finish their last full coastal loop before their time expires, that incomplete loop is not counted.
Aid station and logistics
An aid station is located at the start/finish in the group camping area. It is stocked with common ultra-running foods and drinks, including perogies, cheese quesadillas, bacon, soup and broth, gels, chips, baked goods, fruit, water, soft drinks, electrolyte mix, coffee, tea, and warm broth. Participants must supply any specific personal items. A crew and gear area is sectioned off and accessible between completed laps. Raccoons are present on the island and can take unsecured food and supplies.
Camping and ferry
A group campsite is reserved for runners and their crews as part of registration. Ferry transport to the island requires a separate booking and fee; ferry costs are not included in the race registration. Early-morning ferry service may be limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
