Rocky Gap Trail Run

Event Overview

The Rocky Gap Trail Run is a trail running event offering a 25K (~16 mi) and a 50K (~32 mi) race. It takes place at Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, Maryland. The event is open to solo runners and to relay teams of 2 or 3 runners.

Course Details

The course consists of three different loops within the park, designated as Loop A, Loop B, and Loop C. The 25K race covers each loop once in sequence (A, B, C). The 50K race covers each loop twice in sequence (A, B, C, A, B, C).

• Loop A (Rocky Trail): This loop is 6.5 miles with over 500 feet of elevation change. It includes singletrack sections and a steep, short climb.
• Loop B (Canyon Overlook): This loop is 4.4 miles with about 500 feet of elevation change. It features lesser-known singletrack and a short, steep section.
• Loop C (Lakeside Loop): This loop is 5.2 miles with about 250 feet of elevation change. It follows a trail around a lake.

Loop A is described as the most difficult, followed by Loop B. Loop C is considered the easiest.

Aid Stations

A base camp aid station is located at the start/finish area near the pavilion. It provides hot and cold food, water, soda, and Gatorade. On-course aid stations are positioned along each loop and provide water, Gatorade, and some snacks.

Relay Format

For both the 25K and 50K distances, teams of 2 or 3 runners are permitted. Each runner must complete at least one loop, but loops do not have to be divided equally. Teams must run the loops in the designated order (A, B, C). A single bib on a bib belt is exchanged between teammates at the end of each loop.

Registration

Registration fees vary by date and event type, with early bird discounts available. The fee includes a finisher medal, chip timing, aid station support, medical support, post-race food, and a race t-shirt.
