Event Overview

The Robin Challenge takes place at Sence Valley Forestry Park, a site managed by Forestry England near Ibstock, Leicestershire. This location is a former mine that has been transformed into a park featuring pools and woodland. The event follows a 6-hour format where participants can choose how many laps to complete within the time limit.

Course Details

The route consists of a 3.3-mile off-road loop. The lap begins with a long downhill section and circles the pools at the lower end of the park. It then features a series of climbs as it moves through younger trees and into a pine forest before returning up the initial hill to complete the circuit.

Underfoot, the terrain is primarily crushed stone paths. Some sections cross grass, which can become slippery or muddy depending on recent weather conditions. Trail shoes are recommended for this course.

Participation and Distance

The event accommodates various distances based on the number of laps completed:

  • 4 laps for a half marathon distance
  • 8 laps for a full marathon distance
  • 9 laps or more for an ultramarathon distance

Participants choose their own distance on the day and may complete as many loops as desired within 6 hours. The event is also open to canicross runners, who must keep dogs on short leads and enter the specific canicross category. Rucking is also permitted.
