Red’s Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra running event held at Integral Energy Park, Darkes Road, Kembla Grange NSW on Saturday 1 August 2026. The format requires runners to complete a loop of 6.7 km each hour, on the hour, repeating until only one runner remains. The event is listed as a silver ticket event and provides a direct qualification opportunity to the Australian Backyard Ultra team; it is also the host for the 2026 Australian team for the Backyard Ultra World Team Championships in October 2026.
Entries for the event have sold out and a waitlist is in operation. The event used a staged fee release with a first release priced at $230 ending 30 April 2026 and a second release priced at $240 ending 17 July 2026. Entries originally opened on 21 February 2026 and closed on 17 July 2026, subject to capacity. Transfers are not offered. Refunds are only available under conditions related to the waitlist and expire per the race manual.
The course follows a NSW state cross-country layout with two sections, one clockwise (red) and one anticlockwise (blue). It is described as relatively flat and non-technical with a mix of manicured grass and trail. The route will be marked with red and white peg flags, signs, bunting and reflective markers for night running. The event hub groups runners into six-cluster layouts with allocated 3 × 3 m personal aid station spaces. Onsite logistics include three main parking areas managed by a carpark marshal and food and beverage vendors across the weekend. A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony is included in the pre-race program. All runners and crew are required to read the race manual before the event.
