Red Kite Trail Race

The Red Kite Trail Race is a roughly 10km off-road event taking place in the Derwent Valley on 4 October 2026. It is hosted by Derwent Valley Trail Runners with registration at Dipton Jubilee Centre and the start a short walk from the centre.

The course will be fully marked and marshalled. The route winds through ancient woodland and includes twisting trails, rocky underfoot sections, a short stretch of faster paths, and a stream crossing. Ongoing works in the valley have produced a slightly altered and somewhat shorter route than previous years. A GPX file of the route is available.

Entrants must be 18 or older on the day. On-the-day entries may be allowed subject to availability. There are no deferrals or refunds and no waiting list this year, but substitutions are permitted up to the official closing date. Numbers are collected at registration and the race operates a cut off of two and a half hours. Medical support will be available and water will be provided on the course. Presentations are scheduled around midday.

Free car parking is available at Dipton Jubilee Centre, Dipton Colliery Primary School and Dipton Surgery, though spaces are limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
