Course and Logistics

The RDM Trail Race takes place on Cahaba Mountain in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian range in Trussville, Alabama. The course is a technical single-track trail loop, with roughly 90% of the route on trails featuring roots, rocks, multiple switchbacks, and elevation changes. The start and finish is in the parking lot of the Trussville Senior Citizens Center. There is one aid station near the halfway point and additional support at the start/finish area. Trail shoes or hiking boots are recommended. The event has a total participant cap of 150.

Distances

Participants can choose between two distances run on the same looped trail:

  • 5 miles: Follows the full loop marked with orange indicators.
  • 5K: Follows a shorter version of the loop marked with white indicators. Participants who register separately for both distances will run the 5-mile loop first for a combined distance and receive a running hat.

Awards

All registrants receive a finisher's medal. Awards are given to the first overall male and female finishers in each distance. Additional awards are given to the first and second male and female finishers in each age division for both the 5K and 5-mile distances separately. Age divisions are: Under 20, 21-35, 36-50, and Masters (50+).

Additional Info

Packet pickup begins at the start/finish area on the morning of the race. All participants, including runners, ruckers, and hikers, start together and are asked to line up based on their anticipated pace. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
