A team category is included. A team consists of three runners, each running a different distance: one on the 5K, one on the 10K, and one on the 15K. When registering, participants can indicate a team name and the names of teammates; each person registers individually but the team section links teammates for awards.

Most of the course is single track trail and includes some technical sections where attention to footing is needed. Aid stations are placed along the course and will provide fluids and snacks with volunteer support. Long sleeve tech shirts are included with each entry and are distributed at bib pickup. Completion items and cookie medals are handed out at the finish. Epic Recess and Ranch to Ranch patches will be available for purchase at check in. Pets and strollers are not allowed. A 50K out and back trail run near Julian, California, that drops into Oriflamme Canyon, traverses Box Canyon and Blair Valley, and returns via a long climb. The course follows the Pacific Crest Trail and has a nine hour time limit.
