Race to the Lake - Pelham

Race to the Lake is a 10 mile lollipop trail race at Oak Mountain State Park near Pelham, AL. The course follows a variety of single track and gravel sections and includes roughly 2,000 feet of total vertical gain. The start and finish are located at the Lakeside pavilion near the South Trailhead parking area.

The route uses named trails including Yellow, Green, Orange and several connector segments. Runners encounter technical runnable sections, steep rocky descents, climbs to West Ridge Road, a gravel road segment by the Group Camp Road and a lakeside stretch that passes the BMX area. The only aid opportunity is just over halfway and will offer water and a few simple items such as gels. The aid point is generally unmanned though volunteers may be present.

There is a four hour race cutoff, equivalent to about a 24 minute per mile pace. Packet pick up is at the Lakeside pavilion on race morning. No late or race day registrations are allowed. All participants are required to pay the $5 park entry fee in cash to enter Oak Mountain State Park. A membership booth for the local trail running group will be present at the event.
