Race The Light

Race The Light is a trail event on the Erme Estuary at Mothecombe featuring the original 8.5 mile course through the private Flete Estate and a newer half marathon option. The classic route follows shadowy estuarine tracks and includes a double crossing of the River Erme. Timings may be adjusted because of tidal and weather conditions, and a head torch is mandatory.

Distances

  • 8.5 miles Classic route with two crossings of the Erme Estuary.
  • Half marathon Shares sections of the classic route and crosses the estuary on the return.

The classic route begins on the estuary slipway and includes woodland loops through the Flete Estate, an early river crossing, additional trail sections, a second estuary crossing, and a steep uphill finish near the SchoolhouseDevon restaurant above the estuary. The half marathon omits the two woodland loops and adds an extended five mile section on the South West Coast Path before returning to the estuary at Wonwell for a final crossing; there is a three hour cut off for the second crossing.

The course is fully marked and marshalled. First aid is available on course and at the event headquarters. Each finisher receives a bespoke Race The Light medal. Dogs are not permitted with runners during the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
