Race The Light

Mothecombe, United Kingdom • 28 Nov 2026

Race The Light

The event takes place at Mothecombe on the Erme Estuary and uses trails through the privately owned Flete Estate. It offers off road running on estuarine and coastal paths with tidal crossings that affect route conditions and timing.

Runners can choose between two distances:

  • Classic: 8.5 miles, double River Erme crossing
  • Half Marathon: longer route including South West Coast Path sections

The Classic follows shadowed estuarine trails with a double crossing of the River Erme and finishes after a steep uphill climb to SchoolhouseDevon. The Half Marathon includes parts of the Classic route but omits two woodland loops, adds roughly five miles on the South West Coast Path, and returns to cross the estuary at Wonwell. The Half Marathon has a three hour cut off for the final crossing.

The course will be fully marked and marshalled. First aid will be available on course and at headquarters. A head torch is mandatory because tides and light can combine to affect crossing times. Dogs are not permitted with runners during the race. Each finisher receives a bespoke Race The Light medal. The event is held with a permit from the Trail Running Association and under England Athletics rules. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
