Race The Light - Mothecombe, Erme Estuary

Race The Light takes place on Saturday 28 November 2026 at Mothecombe on the Erme Estuary. The event is a late autumn trail race that uses estuarine and coastal paths across the privately owned Flete Estate.

The Classic route covers approximately eight and a half miles of shadowy estuarine trails with a double crossing of the River Erme estuary. The course runs from the estuary slipway, includes woodland and coastal sections, and finishes with an uphill approach to the SchoolhouseDevon restaurant above the water before a final estuary crossing and steep ascent to the finish.

The Half Marathon follows sections of the Classic route but omits the two woodland loops and adds a near five mile section on the South West Coast Path. The half returns to the estuary at Wonwell for a final crossing and is subject to a three hour cut-off for that crossing. A head torch is mandatory due to variable light and tidal conditions. Minimum age for entry is 17 years.

The course will be fully marked and marshalled. First aid will be available on course and at headquarters. Each finisher will receive a bespoke Race The Light medal. Dogs are not permitted with runners. The event holds a permit from the Trail Running Association and is held under England Athletics rules.
