Race The Light

Mothecombe, United Kingdom • 28 Nov 2026

Race The Light

Race The Light takes place at Mothecombe on the Erme Estuary, featuring trails through the private Flete Estate. The event is characterized by its tidal timing, where participants must navigate the course before the light fades and the water rises. Due to the timing of the event, a head torch is a mandatory requirement for all participants.

The event offers two distinct distances:

  • 8.5 miles (Classic)
  • Half Marathon

The 8.5 mile Classic course follows shadowy estuarine tracks and includes a double crossing of the River Erme. Runners start on the estuary slipway, pass the SchoolhouseDevon restaurant, and enter the Flete Estate. The race concludes with a second crossing of the estuary followed by a steep uphill climb to the finish line.

The Half Marathon route shares sections of the Classic course but excludes the woodland loops. Instead, it incorporates a five-mile section on the South West Coast Path. This route features a single crossing of the Erme estuary at Wonwell on the return journey. A three-hour cut-off time is in place for the estuary crossing on the Half Marathon route.

The course is fully marked and marshalled, with first aid services available at the event headquarters and along the route. Participants must be at least 17 years old to enter. Finishers receive a bespoke event medal. Dogs are not permitted to accompany runners on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
