Race The Light

Mothecombe, United Kingdom • 28 Nov 2026

Race The Light

Race The Light takes place at Mothecombe on the Erme Estuary, featuring routes that traverse the private Flete Estate. This event requires participants to navigate trails and tracks, with a significant emphasis on managing the natural timing of the sunset and tidal conditions. The event is open to participants aged 17 or older.

The event offers two distinct distances:

  • 8.5 miles (Classic)
  • Half Marathon

The Classic 8.5 mile course involves shadowy estuarine trails and a double crossing of the River Erme estuary. The route begins on the estuary slipway and leads toward the SchoolhouseDevon restaurant before descending for the first river crossing. After a loop through the Flete Estate, the run concludes with a second crossing of the estuary followed by a steep uphill climb to the finish line.

The Half Marathon includes a coastal section along the South West Coast Path before moving west back toward the estuary at Wonwell. This route features one crossing of the Erme estuary on the return leg, which is subject to a three-hour cut-off time.

The courses are fully marked and marshalled, with first aid support available at the event headquarters and along the route. Because participants are racing against the fading light, a head torch is mandatory for all runners. Every finisher receives a bespoke medal upon completion. Please note that dogs are not permitted to accompany runners during the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
