Quiet Silence : Lake Mills, WI

Quiet Silence is a night running event on December 18, 2026, held at 191 Sandy Beach Road in Lake Mills, WI. The course is a flat crushed-limestone rails-to-trails corridor that is wide and has little technical terrain. Both distances are out and back routes.

Distances

  • 16 mile out and back
  • 31 mile out and back

Conditions vary with winter weather. The multi-use trail is not maintained for snow; participants may encounter cleared sections, drifts, or post-holing. The organizer notes variable conditions between years and advises preparation for cold and changing trail surfaces.

Aid and support differ by distance. The 16 mile turnaround provides water, an electrolyte drink, and light snacks; a drop bag may be left there and returned to the start area, though exact timing is not guaranteed. The 31 mile turnaround is a full aid station with cold and hot drinks, food, a covered lit tent with chairs and heaters, and volunteers. Portable toilets are available at the start and at the 31 mile turnaround; there is no toilet at the 16 mile turnaround.

Event rules include no noise makers and no alcohol served by organizers. Aid stations will not supply cups; participants must provide their own vessels. Required gear follows DNR safety guidance: two rear-facing and one forward-facing red light with a blinking option, plus at least 10 square inches of reflective material on both the front and back of outer layers. These items will be checked during packet pickup.

Finishers receive a token rather than a medal. The top three women and top three men in each distance receive an additional special gift. Registration closes on Wed, Dec 16. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
